All our hotels are adhering to the stringent safety and hygiene protocols specified in the South African Government guidelines.
Tsogo Sun Hotels embraces the guidelines and hygiene policies of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the South African National Department of Health (NDoH), and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

What you need to know
What documents do I require at check-in?
Guests will be required to complete a health questionnaire and have their temperature scanned on entering the hotel and will only be permitted access to the hotel, should the results of this assessment fall within acceptable levels
What is the approved temperature on the thermal scanning device?
If a guest’s temperature falls within the normal range and they do not show any symptoms they will be required to sanitise their hands and proceed to check-in. If a guest’s temperature is high (the actual temperature at screening should not exceed 37.5 degrees Celsius) and/or they have symptoms of the virus they will be not be allowed to check-in and will be referred to a medical facility.
How will surfaces and equipment be monitored for hygiene?
Tsogo Sun Hotels is committed to maintaining professional hygiene standards and provides continuous training for housekeeping staff to ensure that the group maintains a high standard of cleanliness.
Will you be spraying your rooms, surfaces and common areas?
Tsogo Sun Hotels housekeeping departments already use chemicals that contain SABS approved disinfectants. Additional frequencies of sanitising of high traffic and high touch point areas have been implemented.
Hotels have a detailed list of “touchpoints” that are touched frequently by guests and employees. High strength disinfectant and microfiber cloths or disposable towels are used to cleanse all touchpoints as per the detailed schedule.
Are you taking extra precautions in how you prepare food?

What protective measures are in place to prevent the spread of the disease in kitchens and communal areas?

Tsogo Sun Hotels has conducted quarterly kitchen hygiene audits for many years that evaluate the cleaning and hygiene standards and adherence to the Department of Health requirements and international benchmarks. All food products are sourced from accredited and reputable suppliers to ensure food safety is maintained at the highest levels.
When will you start screening guests and staff for COVID-19?
The safety of our guests and staff is of paramount importance, we continuously encourage social distancing and good hygiene practice while taking guidance from the NICD. To protect our guests and staff and to prevent a potentially high risk person from checking into the hotel, guests are required to be screened on arrival using a thermal scanner. If a guest’s temperature falls within the normal range and they do not show any COVID-19 symptoms they will be required to sanitise their hands and proceed to check-in. If a guest’s temperature is high (the actual temperature at screening should not exceed 37.5 degrees Celsius) and/or they have symptoms of the virus they will be not be allowed to check-in and will be referred to a medical facility as specified by the NICD.
How will you ensure that staff are safe from contracting COVID-19?
Tsogo Sun Hotels is committed to maintaining professional hygiene standards and provides continuous training for all staff to ensure that the group maintains a high standard of cleanliness. As an additional precaution, guests and staff are being advised on basic protective measures hand sanitisers sourced from a SABS approved supplier have been strategically placed in all Tsogo Sun Hotels.
What is a quarantine hotel?
Tsogo Sun Hotels has been approached by Government to assist in the provision of quarantine facilities. The Group has identified and allocated hotels based on demand to the Department of Health to assist during this challenging period. These hotels are currently operating under the exemption requirements as directed by Government which includes Department of Health quarantine facilities.
The above-mentioned facilities are run with the guidance of the NICD, following strict safety and hygiene regulations. The allocated facilities are currently operating as contact-less facilities, ensuring necessary steps are taken to minimise exposure to our staff members in our efforts to flatten the COVID-19 curve.
Tsogo Sun Hotels remains committed to its efforts in assisting Government and remains in contact with the Department of Health on a daily basis to ensure adequate assistance is provided as and when requirements develop.
Can anyone book into a quarantine hotel?
No, there are strict measures in place. The Department of Health allocates guests to the identified properties. One cannot check-in at the identified quarantine facilities without prior approval with the Department of Health.
