Tsogo Sun Environment Initiatives

Environmental Education In South Africa

Climate change has long been a topical global issue and in recent years there has been a drive for corporates to be aware of their impact on the environment, particularly in the communities where they operate. While certain business have an obvious impact on the environment, by nature of its business, Tsogo Sun has a low environmental impact.  However, as a responsible corporate citizen, we regard our role seriously and we have taken steps to address the impact of our operations on the environment.

To this end we have made a commitment to introduce environment initiatives to reduce the affect that our business has on the environment and to encourage employees, guests and those from our local communities to embrace greener behaviour for the well-being of the planet. Areas of focus include energy, water, liquefied petroleum gas (“LPG”), diesel, waste management, biodiversity and environmental education. This section of our website deals with environmental education specifically, while information on the other focus areas can be found in the investor relations pages of our website.

As part of our commitment to the upliftment and development of communities through our Tsogo Sun Citizenship initiatives, the Tsogo Sun Environment programme promotes environmental education in South Africa. By creating awareness in local communities we can encourage a responsible attitude towards the use of electricity and water and the management of waste. We also champion opportunities to educate people about reducing their impact on the environment through tree planting, food security and conserving our natural heritage. Towards this end, we partner with Generation Earth and the Miss Earth SA leadership development programmes, which instill awareness and provide education about environmental issues among young South Africans. During the last year, we were involved in projects for trees and climate change, recycling and glass initiatives, stationery drives, and water and energy programmes in South Africa.
