Gardens at Paradise Sun
Plants of Praslin
9 full time gardeners, over 5 acres of gardens, a collection of flowering and fruiting plants, and lawns that run right to the beach edge, at Paradise Sun we are very garden-proud. Our pretty French-Creole bungalows are below palm height to never obstruct your view and we’ve chosen colours that are garden complementary. The gardens are bordered by Praslin forest and the soft grass and sandy paths make it a pleasure to walk barefoot from bed to beach. We’re caretakers of the island's only nutmeg tree and our staff are happy to give you a guided nature walk or tell you about any of the plants you see in our gardens.
PARADISE SUN GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS
Lemon Grass – you’ll find it all over our gardens. Citrus smelling and great health benefits.
Coconuts – ask Jimmy our entertainer or join the coconut demonstration for fresh-from-the-tree milk, water and coconut flesh.
Cinnamon – you’ll taste it in lots of Creole dishes. Break off some bark or crunch a leaf for the full flavour.
Nutmeg – ask to see the island’s only tree of this sweet spice in our garden.
Breadfruit – this grapefruit sized fruit got its name from the fresh bread like texture of the cooked fruit and is a Creole dining staple.
Tortoise Fruit – with a friendly sounding name and a very unique, if not entirely pleasant smell, you’ve not seen or smelt a fruit like this one.
Tamarind – a classic flavour in Indian dishes, look out for these trees with their pod like fruits.
Frangipani – nothing says island-life like frangipani flowers. Wait until sunset and smell them as you walk through our gardens. They are most fragrant when the sun goes down.
Hibiscus – large soft petals and pretty reds and whites for the perfect island flower in your hair.
