Visit The Midlands
The KwaZulu Midlands is a truly special place in South Africa. With rolling hills, country lanes, quaint pubs and restaurants that could be out of an English story book, the Midlands is a must-visit destination for anyone hoping to escape the city and experience something a little different.
The Midlands Meander is one of South Africa’s major arts and crafts routes. The route takes you from art gallery to craft shop, restaurant to pub and picturesque farm to artisan workshop. The Meander is a great place to pick up a souvenir or treat yourself to a day of relaxed ‘Sunday driving’ any day of the week.
Heading outside of the Midlands to the north you will have the opportunity to discover a vital but bloody part of South Africa’s history. The famous “Battlefields” of the Anglo-Boer war and Zulu battles tell the story of a time that shaped the land and people. Throughout the year you can even witness exciting re-enactments of famous skirmishes between the British and Zulu warriors.
