Status Levels and Status Points

1. How many status levels are in the Rewards programme and what are the requirements for each status level?
The programme has three status levels

  • Gold: Entry level
  • Platinum: 2,000 Status Points required in a rolling 12 month period
  • Black: 6,000 Status Points required in a rolling 12 month period

2. What are Status Points and how are they accumulated?
Your status is no longer determined by the number of nights you stay with us but by the amount of Status Points you accumulate. You accumulate 1 Status Point for every R10 spent on public and corporate accommodation rates, food and beverage at hotel owned restaurants and sundry items (hotel owned laundry services, telephone calls and hotel owned parking). Status Points are calculated over a rolling 12 month period.

3. How can I upgrade to another status level of the programme?
Higher statuses are awarded to you based on the number of status points you have accumulated over a rolling 12 month period which is now based on your spend and no longer nights. You accumulate 1 Status Point for every R10 spent on public and corporate rates and other qualifying spend when staying at a participating Tsogo Sun hotel.

  • Gold: Entry level
  • Platinum: 2,000 Status Points required in a rolling 12 month period
  • Black: 6,000 Status Points required in a rolling 12 month period

You will automatically be upgraded upon reaching the required Status Points for an upgrade and a new card will be sent via postal mail. Platinum and Black cardholder status is valid for 1 year from date of issue. If you do not maintain or meet the required Status Points to maintain your status you will be placed on a lower status level in line with your Status Points accumulated.

Cards

1. I have just enrolled as a Rewards cardholder, when will I receive my card?
Newly registered cardholders will receive their card after their first stay at a Tsogo Sun hotel via the post. You will receive your accommodation discount on your first stay, and food and beverage discounts. In the event that the cardholder is not in possession of a physical card the cardholder must provide their card number PIN.

2. What must I do if I’ve lost or misplaced my card?
You can request a replacement card on tsogosun.com by logging in your account using your card number and confidential PIN. Once logged in you can request a card replacement which will be a menu option displayed in the cardholder area section alternatively you can call the Tsogo Sun Customer Contact Centre on 0861 44 77 44 or email tsogosunhotels.contactus@tsogosun.com.

3. Does my number change when my status changes?
No, your card number does not change, even when your status is upgraded.

4. Why do I need a PIN, and when do I use it?
Your confidential PIN protects you from fraudulent use of your SunRands. You will receive an activation email once you have registered which will direct you to the website where you will be required to select your four digit PIN. The PIN is also required along with your card number when logging in on tsogosun.com to access your rewards programme account. You may also change your PIN online under “My Details” within tsogosun.com.

SunRands

1. What are SunRands?
SunRands are Tsogo Sun Hotels Rewards programme currency that you earn and that in turn can be used towards free holidays as well as for meals and drinks at any Tsogo Sun hotel-owned restaurant or bar, Hotel Parking – when staying at a hotel and Tourism levy.

2. How do I earn SunRands?
You earn SunRands when you stay at a participating Tsogo Sun hotel on public and corporate accommodation rates. Confidential rates do not qualify for SunRands earnings (example – Discovery Vitality) SunRands can also be earned on food and beverage spend at Tsogo Sun hotel owned restaurants/bars and sundry items (hotel owned laundry, telephone calls and hotel owned parking) provided you charge the bill back to your room. You can earn SunRands on a maximum of 4 rooms, per cardholder, per stay. You must be occupying one of the rooms to qualify for SunRands earning. SunRands earning is calculated based on your status level:

  • Gold: 5%
  • Platinum:10%
  • Black: 15%

3. How many rooms qualify for SunRands earnings?
You can now earn on a maximum 4 rooms, per cardholder, per stay.

4. How long are SunRands valid for?
SunRands are valid for 24 months from date of issue. SunRands not used within the 24 months will expire irrespective of your status levels.

5. How do I know how many SunRands I have?

  • You can login to tsogosun.com using your card number and PIN
  • Enquire at any of our hotels
  • Call the Tsogo Sun Customer Contact Centre on 0861 44 77 44

6. Can SunRands and benefits be used for a friend?
No, SunRands are not transferable. You can redeem and earn SunRands for yourself and your immediate family (i.e. your spouse and children). You must be present to earn and redeem. You can now earn on 4 rooms, per stay.

7. How long will it take for SunRands earned to reflect on my account?
SunRands earned will be allocated to you 24 hours after check out and will appear on your statement. Should your stay not be allocated within 24 hours after check out you can log a missing stay online by logging in with you card number and PIN.

Redeeming SunRands

1. How many SunRands do I need before I can spend them?
For redemption purposes, one SunRand = one Rand. You do not need a minimum amount in order to redeem.

2. When and where can I redeem my SunRands?
You can redeem SunRands any day of week at all participating Tsogo Sun hotels or Tsogo Sun hotel owned restaurant/bars. Hotel Parking – when staying at a hotel and Tourism levy. Gold Reef City Theme Park, Sandton Sun and Suncoast Spa and Montecasino Bird Gardens.

3. Can I redeem SunRands earned on my current stay during my stay?
No, SunRands will only appear on your profile 24 hours after check out and can only be used once reflected on your profile as an available SunRands balance.

4. Do I earn SunRands on SunRand redemption transactions?
You can earn SunRands only on the top up value of your stay should you be required to pay in an amount. You will not earn SunRands on the redeemed accommodation and food & beverage portion of your bill paid.

5. How do I make a SunRand redemption booking?
Book online, or contact the Southern Sun Customer Contact Centre.

6. Can I use my SunRands to pay for food and beverage Hotel Parking and Tourism Levy?
Yes, you can pay for meals and drinks with SunRands at Tsogo Sun hotel owned restaurants and bars as well as Hotel Parking when staying at a hotel and Tourism levy.

2. Can I make a booking on discounted rates for my friends?
No, your discounts are intended for you and your immediate family (spouse and children) and you need to be present for the hotel to honour your discount and benefit. If you are making use of SUN1 or Park Station Inn you do not qualify for accommodation discounts.

3. Do I qualify for further discounts on accommodation if I am booked on a negotiated corporate rate?
You are not given a discount if you are booked on a negotiated corporate rate.

Food And Beverage Discounts

1. What discounts do I receive at Tsogo Sun hotel owned restaurants and bars?
You qualify for the following discounts on food and beverages at Tsogo Sun Hotel owned restaurants and bars:

  • Gold: 10%
  • Platinum: 15%
  • Black: 20%

Gold cardholders will not receive their card until after their first hotel stay.

2. Do I need to be staying in the hotel to get discounts on food and beverages at hotel owned restaurants and bars?
You do not need to be staying at a Tsogo Sun hotel within South Africa to qualify for this discount. To qualify for this discount outside South Africa, you will need to be staying at the hotel.

3. Can I give my card to a family member or friend to get discounts?
You are required to be present at the restaurant or bar to qualify for your discount and will be required to produce your card.

4. Is there a limit on the number of guest the discount applies to?
Yes, your discount applies to a maximum of 8 guests, per sitting.

5. Do I get discounts on room service and banqueting at Tsogo Sun hotels?
No, discounts exclude room service and banqueting.

6. Do I qualify for discounts on food and beverages if my company is settling the account?
No, discounts are not granted on bills to corporates, travel agents or government departments.

You can claim a missing stay online. You may also query it at the Rewards cardholder area at the hotel or call the Tsogo Sun Customer Contact Centre on 0861 44 77 44 or email tsogosunhotels.contactus@tsogosun.com

2. I have forgotten my PIN Number?
You can use the “forgot PIN number” on tsogosun.com which can be found on the login area on the Tsogo Sun hotels page. Our hotels and the Customer Contact Centre are not able to assist you with PIN requests as your PIN is confidential.

3. I would like to get a statement of SunRands summary?
You can login online to view or email SunRands statements to your email address, which can be found under cardholder area under “Statements”. You can also call the Tsogo Sun Customer Contact Centre on 0861 44 77 44 or email tsogosunhotels.contactus@tsogosun.com who will then log a request on your behalf for a statement to be emailed to you.
